The best way to begin is to start to meditate a little bit each day. You can start with as little as 5 minutes a day. Choose a time that works for you each day, preferably in the morning before you become in engaged in your daily activities. Sit comfortably with your spine straight and your feet on the floor. Set a timer for your meditation and use that time to simply focus on your breath. You can also count your breaths backward from 10 to 1, over and over again.
You can practice mindfulness meditation anywhere regardless of what you’re actually doing. If you don’t have time to dedicate towards a sitting practice, you can pay extra special attention to any activity you’re engaged in such as driving, walking or even taking care of others. In any activity you’re engaged in, become as present as possible. Pay attention to your breathing and being in the moment by drawing all of your focus and awareness in the here and now.
You can practice meditation anywhere on your own. If you practice at home, it’s best to dedicate a specific space for your meditation that is clean and quiet. You can also use this space to create an altar of items that spiritually inspire you such as candles and photos that help set the mood and intention for your meditation.
